Ajouter des séances de laser de basse intensité 785 nm en cabinet au minoxidil 5 % fait mieux qu'associer ce minoxidil à un peigne laser éteint, dans un seul essai de fiabilité limitée (Faghihi 2018, 50 hommes et femmes avec alopécie androgénétique). Après 1 an, la densité progresse de +78,3 % contre +51,3 % et les cheveux épaissis de +45,4 % contre +32,3 %. La rougeur du cuir chevelu est aussi moins fréquente avec le vrai laser : 1 patient sur 23 contre 5 sur 22.
