Dans la pelade en plaques, ajouter au minoxidil 6 séances de laser erbium-verre fractionné 1540 nm fait mieux que le minoxidil seul, d'après un seul essai de fiabilité limitée mené sur deux plaques par patient (Al-Dhalimi 2019). En 12 semaines, la densité passe de 8,4667 à 10,9667 cheveux par cm² avec le laser, contre 7,2333 à 7,7 sans laser, et la note de satisfaction atteint 4,766 contre 2,866 points. Côté tolérance, des démangeaisons sont notées chez 3 patients sur 30 contre 2 sur 30.
