Pattern III Vertex. Thirteen patients with tl:!is pat tern of hair loss completed the study. Improvement sufficient to allow categorization into a less severe pattern of loss occurred in three patients. All three patients who were recategorized at the end of the study developed pattern III hair loss.

Pattern V. Twenty patients began the study with this pattern of hair loss. A less severe pattern of loss developed in 13 patients. Twelve patients progressed to a type IV pattern, and one patient improved suffi ciently to allow classification as a III vertex pattern.
