Seul, le microneedling électrique (8 séances toutes les 3 semaines) fait gagner +32,09 cheveux épais par cm² en 24 semaines chez l'homme, sans différence significative avec le minoxidil topique 5 %, mais nettement moins que s'il est associé au minoxidil (Bao 2022). Le cheveu s'épaissit de +10,41 µm, significativement moins que sous minoxidil seul ou sous l'association. Ces résultats viennent d'un seul essai de fiabilité limitée, chez 75 hommes chinois.

Ce traitement n'a été mesuré que dans une seule étude par critère : il n'existe pas encore assez d'essais pour en tirer une conclusion. Les résultats ci-dessous sont des indices, à lire avec leurs limites.
